The day your renovation starts can feel a bit overwhelming.
Trades arriving, dust starting up, decisions being finalised on the spot. We get it.
After hundreds of renovations, here's exactly what to expect when our team rolls up on day one.
The walk-through
Before any tools come out, we walk through the space together. We confirm the scope, double-check measurements, talk through any changes since the quote, and answer any final questions. This usually takes 20–30 minutes and saves a lot of confusion later.
Setting up site protection
Renovations are messy. Before any demolition starts, we set up dust sheets, floor protection, and a clear pathway from your front door to the work area. We'll also cover any furniture or fixtures staying in adjacent rooms. The goal: contain the chaos to the room being renovated.
Demolition begins
Once protection is in place, demolition starts. This is the loudest, dustiest part of the entire process — and usually the shortest. Most bathroom strip-outs are done within a day. Kitchens take a bit longer, depending on cabinetry.
Skip bin arrival
A skip arrives either on day one or day two, depending on scheduling. We organise this — you don't need to think about waste removal at any point during the project.
End of day one
By the end of the first day, the room is usually unrecognisable. That can feel confronting if you've never lived through a reno before. Don't worry — that's normal. From here, the build-up phase begins, and you'll start seeing the new space take shape pretty quickly.
What you can do to make day one easier:
- Move any fragile items out of nearby rooms
- Make sure pets and small kids are out of the house during demolition
- Have a kettle and snacks somewhere accessible (we always appreciate it)
- Don't worry about being "in the way" — we'll let you know if we need anything
